6 Spring Cleaning Tips for a Happy, Healthy Mind

Spring has sprung, and as the season of new beginnings, it’s a great time to re-focus on yourself. A healthy outside starts from the inside, and we’ve got 6 great tips for how you can spring clean for a healthy mind and body – and a happier you!

Get moving!

Have you found that your level of exercise has dwindled during the colder weather? Don’t worry, we get it! It’s tough to get out of your nice warm bed when it’s chilly outside! But with the temperatures now on the rise, it’s time to get that body moving again.

Physical activity causes the release of endorphins in your body. Endorphins are essentially your body’s natural anti-stress drugs, and the more you have, the better you feel. So if you can find time to do some form of exercise you’ll be doing yourself a big favor. And both your body and mind will thank you for it!

Spring clean your skincare routine

The fundamentals of a good skincare routine – to cleanse, nourish and protect – don’t ever change. However as the seasons go by, you may need to use more or less of different products in your skincare routine to accommodate climate changes. For example, you might find that you need less moisturizer in the spring, as humidity rises and your skin stays hydrated more easily. So pay attention to how your skin is feeling and tweak your skincare routine accordingly!

Spring is also a great time to clean out your cosmetics. Take the time to go through your makeup bag and replace anything that has expired. It’s also a good idea to give your makeup brushes a good clean – use some warm water, and a gentle shampoo to do this!

Reconnect with nature

Coming out of winter, I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling a case of cabin fever! During the cold weather, we naturally spend the majority of our day indoors – either in the office, at home or in the car. Anything to avoid the cold!

To continue with your commitment to a healthy mind, it’s now time to get outside and reconnect with nature. Try eating your lunch in a park near your work. Get off the treadmill and instead run on the open road. Find some grass, grab your book and a blanket and enjoy a good read outside instead of on your couch. But remember to wear a good quality sunscreen if you’re out in the sun!

Eat well and hydrate!

Eating a well-balanced diet goes a long way in supporting and sustaining the well-being of all your internal organs. Your complexion, too, will benefit from selecting certain foods that promote a healthy skin diet. And finally, you’ll also get a great deal of satisfaction knowing that you are making positive choices for your body.

Drinking plenty of water will also help ensure your body and skin are in tip-top condition. Keep in mind that you may find yourself exerting yourself more and spending more time in the sun during warmer weather, so keep that water bottle handy!

De-stress and decompress

With the stress of the Christmas and New Year period now behind you, it’s important to take the time to take stock and lower those stress levels.

If you are stressed or anxious over an extended period of time, you might find yourself more susceptible to weight gain because your metabolism has slowed down. You might also find that stress causes your skin to suffer. You may even be more prone to headaches and niggly sicknesses than usual!

So actively take some time to decompress and promote a healthy mind! Try things like hitting the gym, talking to a close friend about your worries, or meditating to bring those stress levels back down.

Focus on the future

There’s nothing better than knowing you have the whole of spring and summer stretching before you. So make the most of it! Plan out some activities, travel or goals that you want to tick off while the warmer weather is around. Book that trip to the beach with your family. Organize a picnic in your local park with your friends. Commit to your goal of going to yoga once a week, which you’ve been meaning to do for ages, but never have! Because knowing that you are ticking boxes and crossing off goals are great ways to keep your mind happy and healthy.

So what are you waiting for? Start implementing these tips today, and be prepared for a happier, healthy mind this spring.
