#FiveBy12 with Holly B.
#Fiveby12 is a new series where we shine a spotlight on people just like you to discover what you do, where you’re from, and what makes you you— in just 5 questions.
Let’s Get Started!
1. Where were you born?
In Regina, Saskatchewan. A friendly prairie city. So cold in the the winter though!
2. Did you go to university or college? How did you decide what you wanted to study?
I still am! Getting my PhD. Almost done now. I was fascinated with the brain. My dad had a brain tumour and it affected his language and his personality and that intrigued me.
3. If you won $1 million tomorrow, what would you do with the money?
I would start a brain centre at the University of Regina where we would do brain research, educate the public about brain health, teach classes to university students about the brain, and have a clinic about the brain for the public to come to.
4. What do you think the turning points have been in your life? What were you like then?
A teacher in high school believed in me and made me believe that I was intelligent. I never knew I was. I was a kid who ran with the crowd and never thought for myself.
5. Last but not least, what do you do for fun?
Fun? I don’t really. I have been working for 5 years in my PhD. I have two kids, a husband, and a house to run. I will have fun when I am done with PhD. I will travel, have people over for meals, get a manicure and a pedicure. I guess I really should do all those things now but I have had to be focused in order to get my PhD.
